Zipair's Budget-Friendly Tokyo–Vancouver Route: Affordable Lie-Flat Seats and Booking Tips 🗾

This week, Zipair, a Japan-based airline, announced a new route from Tokyo Narita (NRT) to Vancouver (YVR) starting in March 2024. It's the airline's fourth route to North America and its first to Canada.

Zipair's New Tokyo–Vancouver Route 

The service from Tokyo Narita (NRT) to Vancouver (YVR) begins on March 13, 2024. Flights operate three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. 

The initial flight schedule is: 

• ZG22 Tokyo Narita (NRT)–Vancouver (YVR), departing 4pm and arriving 8:30am

• ZG21 Vancouver (YVR)–Tokyo Narita (NRT), departing 10:30am and arriving 1:30pm the next day 

The eastbound flight takes 8 hours 30 minutes, while the westbound flight takes 10 hours 30 minutes. 

Please note: Narita is situated over an hour away from central Tokyo. Plan ahead to arrange transportation, whether it's booking a taxi, renting a car, or utilizing the world-renowned transit system. 

The ZIP Air Experience 

Zipair's economy and business classes offer a no-frills experience with a basic ticket covering a seat and 7kg carry-on baggage 🧳. Additional services like meals, seat selection, and baggage come at an extra cost. 

Business class boasts 18 "Full-Flat" seats in a comfortable configuration, while the lie-flat seats in business class have a pitch of 107cm and a width of 51cm. Economy offers 79cm of pitch and 43cm of width, with limited reclining ability 💺.

Amenities at a Cost 

Most amenities on Zipair come at a cost, including lounge access, meals, extra baggage, and seat selection. However, Wi-Fi is complimentary, and you can stream entertainment on your own device through the airline’s app 📱. 

Booking Tips 

Zipair offers budget-friendly prices for transpacific flights. Round-trip business class flights can be found for under $3,000 (CAD) and economy tickets just under $1,100, a steal compared to other carriers on this route. 

Note: Consider using fixed-value points from programs like Scene+, TD Rewards, CIBC Aventura Points, or RBC Avion points to offset costs. 

Zipair’s Tokyo route offers affordable options for lie-flat seats, a rarity in premium cabin bookings to Japan. Making use of your fixed-value points can further reduce your expenses, just keep in mind that additional amenities beyond a seat and a small carry-on bag will cost you.
