Getting The Most Out Of Your Points

In our previous editions of the rundown, we've discussed how Flying Blue has streamlined its standard award pricing, meaning that regardless of where you are in North America, the minimum price remains consistent when flying to Europe. This is a good thing… at times.🫣

Here's a breakdown of the standard award pricing for those who are unaware:

• Economy: Starts at 20,000 miles

• Premium Economy: Starts at 30,000 miles

• Business: Starts at 50,000 miles

Earning Flying Blue Miles

You can earn Air France KLM Flying Blue miles by booking flight tickets with Air France, KLM, SkyTeam partners and using your credit card of course. You can also earn points through the Brim Flying Blue Air France Credit Card on all purchases, as well as transferring Amex points at a 1:0.75 ratio from American Express credit cards if that interests you.

Reminder: Before transferring your points at a potential loss, ensure you maximize their value by exploring alternatives with other airlines or loyalty partners, such as Aeroplan.

Take Advantage of Qatar Airways' 50% Avios Bonus Promotion

Qatar Airways is running a limited-time promotion offering up to a 50% bonus on Avios purchases. This promotion can be a great way to top up your account for future travel or to get better seats at a reduced rate than it would if you paid in cash.

Promo Details

From now until June 11, 2024, Qatar Airways is providing a bonus on purchased Avios, structured as follows:

• 3,000 - 15,000 Avios: 20% bonus

• 16,000 - 38,000 Avios: 40% bonus

• 40,000 + Avios: 50% bonus

Note: The base price for Avios ranges from 2.3–2.8 cents per point (USD) but with a bonus in play, it gets reduced to 1.53 cents per point (USD), which as you can tell is a great deal! ✅

Requirements

To participate in this promotion, you must have at least:

• 1,000 Avios in your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account. 

Best Use of Your Points

The best value for Qatar Airways Avios is of course with booking Qsuites. For example, a one-way business class flight from New York (JFK) to Doha (DOH) will cost around 70,000 Avios. 

You'd only need to buy 47,000 Avois, and with the 50% bonus, you'd have 70,500 Avois available for booking the Qsuite mentioned above! This would run you $1,081 (USD), or $1,488 (CAD), which is a fantastic deal given that these business class seats typically fetch anywhere from $5,000 to $7,000 in cash. 💰

Other Ways to Earn Qatar Airways Avios

The Avios network is great because you have the ability to transfer Avios between British Airways Executive Club and Qatar Airways Privilege Club at a 1:1 ratio. You can also earn Avios through American Express Membership Rewards, which transfer to British Airways Executive Club at a 1:1 ratio. 

In addition, you can transfer RBC Avion miles to British Avios points with their current 30% bonus promo. The promotion is active until June 21st, 2024, giving you enough time to plan and top up your Avios. You can read more about this promo deal in our previous newsletter here. 

Earn Up to 100% Bonus Hilton Honors Points by July 23, 2024

You heard that right, it's back! Until July 23, 2024, you can receive a bonus of up to 100% when you purchase Hilton Honors points.

Promo Details

Until July 23, 2024, you can earn 100% bonus Hilton Honors points by purchasing points. This is a recurring promotion, with the last one ending on May 14, 2024, also offering a 100% points bonus. 

You will have to buy a minimum of 6,000 points to take advantage of the 100% bonus and can buy up to 160,000 Hilton Honors points. Buying the maximum amount will cost you about $1,600 USD, or $2,190.16 CAD which would be 0.68 CAD per point.

It is also important to know that this promotion is targeted and some members may receive different offers!

How to Earn Hilton Honors Points

Transfer from Membership Rewards

Hilton Honors points are hard to come by in Canada but can be worth it. Only the American Express Membership Rewards program allows you to transfer points to the Hilton Honors program at a 1:1 ratio, which is great if you have a stay in mind or have some points lying around.

Buying Points

These transactions will be carried out in US dollars so a 2.5% conversion fee would apply if you use a Canadian credit card. To avoid this, use a credit card that doesn’t charge a foreign currency conversion fees like the Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite, plus if you sign up for the card via the link above, you can also enjoy 3 months of Chexy fee-free! 

Is Buying Hilton Honors Points Worth It?

Yes and no. Consider buying them if you have travel plans and are looking for a place to stay. If not, buying points may not be in your best interest.
