✈️ New TD Aeroplan Welcome Bonus Offers: Are They Worth Your While?

TD just released new welcome bonus offers on its Aeroplan credit cards, with up to 45,000 points on the higher-end Infinite card and 15,000 points on the Platinum. These offers sound great, but let’s decide if these cards are worth a spot in your wallet.

🌟 TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite: Up to 45,000 Points

If you fly with Air Canada, this card is worth checking out. TD is offering up to 45,000 Aeroplan points plus a first-year fee rebate, worth about $945 in flight reward value if you hit all the spending milestones.

🚨The Offer: Up to 45,000 Points

  • 10,000 points on your first purchase

  • 15,000 more after spending $7,500 in the first 180 days

  • 20,000 more after spending $12,000 in your first year

That $12K spend in your first year works out to about $1,000/month, which is quite easy to hit if you use this card with Chexy.

Real-life example: Spending just $2,000 per month on rent and bills with Chexy adds up to $24,000 over the year. With that spend, you’ll unlock the welcome bonus right away, and on top of that, you’ll earn an extra 24,000 points from your payments. Altogether, that means you’d end your first year with 69,000 points. That’s enough points for a business class flight to Europe. 🤑

💸 What Are Those Points Worth?

At about 2.1 cents per point, the full welcome bonus is worth around $945. 45k Aeroplan points could translate to:

  • An economy class flight to pretty much anywhere in Europe (ex., Toronto to Lisbon for ~30k points)

  • A couple of cross-country flights in Canada (ex., Toronto to Vancouver for ~11k points)

  • A big discount on a business-class ticket

😎 The Other Perks

On top of earning all those points, cardholders get access to:

  • Free first checked bags for you and up to 8 others

  • Preferred pricing on Aeroplan award tickets

  • $100 NEXUS rebate every 4 years

  • Earn 1.5x points on gas, groceries, and Air Canada purchases

⭐️ TD Aeroplan Visa Platinum: Up to 15,000 Points

Think of this card as the “starter” TD Aeroplan credit card. Although it comes with fewer perks and a smaller welcome bonus, there’s no income requirement, meaning almost anyone can apply. It still offers solid value if you’re new to the game.

🚨The Offer: Up to 15,000 Points

You’ll get:

  • 10,000 points on your first purchase, plus

  • 5,000 more after spending $1,000 in 90 days

The $89 annual fee is also rebated in year one.

💸 What’s It Worth?

15,000 Aeroplan points = about $315 in flight value. Not bad for a no-income-requirement card.

You can either save up those 15k points, or use them on flights like these:

  • An economy class flight or (almost) a business class flight from Toronto to New York for ~6k points

  • An economy class ticket from Vancouver to Los Angeles for ~8k points

✈️ Other Perks

Though this card doesn’t offer much in the way of travel perks, you still get:

  • Preferred Aeroplan pricing

  • Travel coverage, like flight/trip delay and lost baggage insurance

  • 1 point per dollar on gas, groceries, and Air Canada purchases

  • 1 point per $1.50 on everything else

👉 The Catch? No free bags, no NEXUS rebate, and weaker earn rates than the Infinite.

🌍 TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite: Up to 165,000 TD Points

TD just dropped a record-high welcome bonus offer on one of its top travel cards: earn up to 165,000 TD Rewards points (worth about $900 in travel). Add in perks like lounge passes and a travel credit, and the first-year value can easily cross the $1,000 mark. But before you apply for this card, let’s break down what those points are really worth.

🚨 The Offer: Up to 165,000 TD Rewards Points

Here’s how it stacks up:

  • 20,000 points on your first purchase

  • 145,000 points after spending $7,500 in the first 180 days

That’s 165,000 points right there. Factor in the 15,000 points you’ll earn just from hitting the $7,500 spend (at 2 points per dollar), and you’re at 180,000 points total.

🤔 What Are TD Rewards Points Worth?

TD Rewards aren’t as flexible as Aeroplan or Amex points. They’re mostly designed to be used through Expedia for TD, where they’re worth 0.5¢ each. That makes 180,000 points worth $900 in travel bookings.

Not bad, but here’s the catch: Aeroplan and Amex points can often exceed 2¢ or more per point when used strategically (think business class flights). That means $900 in TD Rewards points is closer in value to $400 to $500 worth of Aeroplan points, depending on how you redeem.

✈️ Perks That Sweeten the Deal

Beyond the welcome bonus, this card comes with a few travel-friendly extras:

  • $100 annual travel credit (when booking through Expedia for TD)

  • 4 free airport lounge visits per year

  • 10% anniversary bonus on points earned (up to 10,000 points)

  • Travel and purchase insurance coverage

  • First-year annual fee rebate ($139 saved)

Stack these all together, and the first-year value can easily top $1,050, assuming you use the lounge passes and travel credit.

🤑 Everyday Earning Rates

The earn rates are pretty strong:

  • 8x points on Expedia for TD

  • 6x points on groceries, dining, and public transit

  • 4x points on recurring bills, streaming, and digital gaming

  • 2x points on everything else

Valuing TD points at 0.5¢ each, you’re getting about 2% to 4% back on your everyday spending, which isn’t bad, especially for a non-Amex card.

But the catch? The bonus categories are capped at $25,000 annually. After that, you’re back to the base rate.

🔍 So, Is It Worth It?

Looking at just the first year, yes. You’re getting more than $1,000 in value between the bonus, travel credit, and perks. If you don’t care about optimizing points and just want easy travel credits with no hassle, this card could be an option for you.

But here’s the thing: TD Rewards don’t stretch nearly as far as Aeroplan or Amex points. With Aeroplan, 90,000 points could snag you a $7,000 business-class flight to Europe. With TD Rewards, you’re locked into Expedia for TD, where points are fixed-value: there are no sweet spots and no outsized redemptions.

👉 The Bottom Line

If you want simple travel credits and lounge perks with wide Visa acceptance, the TD First Class Travel card is solid, especially in year one with this record-high offer.

If you want maximum value and flexibility, Aeroplan or American Express credit cards (which convert 1:1 to Aeroplan) still win hands down.

Amex to Marriott: 30% Transfer Bonus Until September 30

American Express Canada has launched a new transfer bonus to Marriott Bonvoy, running until September 30, 2025. During the promotion, Amex Membership Rewards transfer to Marriott at an effective ratio of 1:1.56 (normally 1:1.2).

That means 1,000 MR points become 1,560 Bonvoy points, a boost that can make sense if you’re eyeing a specific hotel redemption or need to top up your account.

While Membership Rewards points are often most valuable when transferred to airline programs like Aeroplan or The British Airways Club, this bonus opens up some compelling opportunities on both the hotel and airline side:

If you’re someone looking for an aspirational stay, a five-night stay at Al Maha, a Luxury Collection Desert Resort & Spa in Dubai, costs 480,000 Bonvoy points.

With the 30% bonus, you’d need about 307,700 MR points to transfer, versus a cash price of $11,330 CAD. That works out to roughly 3.7 cents per MR point, an outstanding return.

If you’re more into premium cabins, Marriott points also unlock access to 38 airline partners. You can transfer Bonvoy points to eligible airline programs at a 3:1 ratio, with a 5,000-mile bonus for every 60,000 Bonvoy points transferred.

For instance, you can redeem 15,000 Atmos™ Rewards points for a STARLUX Airlines business class ticket between Taipei and Chiang Mai.

With the transfer bonus promotion, you’d need about 38,460 MR points transferred through Bonvoy to get 60,000 points, which then converts into 25,000 Atmos™ Rewards points.

This is more than enough for a one-way, and nearly a round-trip, versus a cash fare of $961 CAD each way.

For everyday earning, the Amex Cobalt Card shines: 5 MR points per dollar on food and drinks becomes nearly 7.8 Bonvoy points per dollar under this promotion.

Flights often deliver the highest value, but with a rare 30% bonus, both aspirational hotels and unique airline sweet spots are worth a look.

Whether you’re planning a luxurious hotel stay or a unique flight, this bonus helps your points go further.
