🧳 New American Express Aspire Lounge at YUL

There’s a new spot to recharge at Montreal’s Pierre Elliott Trudeau airport. The Aspire American Express lounge recently opened in the domestic terminal this June, offering travellers with a premium Amex card a first-class experience.

What’s Inside?

The lounge is still in a soft-launch opening phase, but here’s what you can expect so far:

  • Seating for 100 people

  • Complimentary food and drinks

  • Both table-side dining and grab-n-go service

  • Open daily from 5am to 9pm

Unlike many other domestic lounges, this one seems like a step up as there’s actual food service, priority entry for certain cardholders, and promises of exclusive Amex activations down the line. 🤩

🔓 Who Can Access the Lounge?

This lounge is accessible through popular lounge programs like Priority Pass, Mastercard TravelPass, and Visa Airport Companion, but most of these cap your visit to 3 hours before departure.

However, it pays to carry the right card. If you have The Platinum Card or The Business Platinum Card from American Express, you get:

  • Complimentary access for you and a travel companion

  • Priority entry

  • Exclusive perks, events, and "elevated experiences" throughout the year

💳 The Cards That Get You In

You can access this lounge for free with any of the following cards:

Let’s take a quick look at the Platinum and Business Platinum cards as they offer some amazing perks besides just lounge access.

⭐️ Here’s what you get with The Platinum Card:

  • 180,000 point welcome offer (tiered over your first 17 months)

  • Access to over 1,400 lounges globally

  • Annual travel and dining credits worth $400+

  • Transfer points 1:1 to programs like Aeroplan and Avios

🌟 And if you have the Business Platinum Card:

  • Get up to 200,000 points in your first year

  • Earn 1.25 points per $1 on everything

  • Up to $820 in business/travel statement credits

  • Perks like Fine Hotels + Resorts and Pearson Priority Security

Keep in mind the welcome bonus for these cards is only available until August 18, 2025.

Final Thoughts

Montreal finally has a new domestic lounge, and it’s a welcome upgrade for premium Amex cardholders. While it’s still in its soft launch phase, the official grand opening is expected in the coming months.

More details and photos will likely drop once it’s officially open, but for now, Platinum cardholders can enjoy early access and fewer crowds in a brand-new lounge.

🛫 Get a 40% Bonus When You Buy Avios with British Airways

British Airways is currently offering a 40% bonus when you buy Avios until July 23. That’s not the highest bonus they’ve ever offered, but it’s not bad. With a smart redemption, it can save you a few hundred dollars on flights.

What’s the Deal?

Until July 23, 2025, British Airways is giving you 40% more Avios when you buy at least 2,000 in one go. You can max out at 200,000 purchased Avios per year, and the bonus doesn’t count toward that cap.

So, if you buy 25,000 Avios, you’ll get 35,000 total (25k + 40% bonus). The more you buy, the slightly cheaper each point becomes. At the top end (200k Avios), you’re looking at around 1.64 cents CAD per Avios.

🤔 Is It Worth It?

Let’s break it down with a round-trip flight we found from Toronto to London.

  • Cash price: CA$1,041.43

  • Using Avios points: 30,000 Avios + ~$200 in taxes and fees

To get 30,000 Avios during this promo, you’d need to buy ~21,500 Avios, which gets bumped up to 30,100 with the 40% bonus. That purchase would cost you around CA$352 (based on the highest tier rate of 1.64 cents per Avios).

So your total out-of-pocket cost looks like this:

  • $352 (points purchase)

  • + $200 (fees)

  • = $552 total

Compared to the cash price of $1,041.43, you’re saving roughly $489, which is almost 50%.

Just remember, if you’re not buying points at the top tier, your per-point cost might be closer to 1.82 cents.

When Does it Make Sense to Buy Avios?

Buying points isn’t always the right move, but it makes sense in some situations:

You already found a flight you want to book with Avios

You need to top up your account to redeem enough points

You’re booking off-peak, short-haul, or intra-Asia/Europe routes (where Avios often shine)

You’re after a business class redemption with a known sweet spot (e.g. Iberia, Qatar, or BA off-peak)

If you’re not sure when or how you’ll use them or don’t have a trip coming up, it might be best to wait for a better deal.

⭐️ Final Takeaway

If you’ve been thinking about a trip to Europe, this might be a good time to buy points. On top of the 40% bonus when buying Avios, British Airways is also offering up to 40% off reward flights between London and a few Canadian cities. If you take advantage of both of these deals, you can save some serious money, especially if you book economy.

Check out Prince of Travel’s section below for more details on this offer.

British Airways Avios Sale: Up to 40% Off Flights

British Airways is offering up to 40% off the Avios cost on select reward flights booked by July 23, 2025. The deal applies to economy and short-haul business class flights for travel between August 1 and December 18, 2025, or January 5 to February 11, 2026.

There’s no registration required. Just log into your British Airways Club account and search — if your dates and routes are eligible, the discount will show automatically.

The promotion includes flights to and from London, though not every route or date will show a full 40% discount. You’ll need to search manually to see what’s available.

As usual with British Airways, surcharges can be steep, especially on long-haul routes. That said, short-haul flights within Europe offer the best value, with Club Europe (business class) redemptions as low as 9,000 Avios plus minimal fees.

We’ve spotted a solid transatlantic deal: London to Toronto for 15,000 Avios plus $100 CAD, down from the usual 25,000 Avios — a great option for positioning or a return leg from Europe.

In Canada, you can earn British Airways Avios directly with the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite† Card, or by transferring from Amex Membership Rewards and RBC Avion points.

If you’re short on Avios, there’s also a 40% bonus on Avios purchases available through July 23, 2025 – something we only recommend if you have a specific redemption in mind, like this one.

This isn’t a deal you see often, and it could be your chance to lock in a European getaway while saving some serious points.

Check out these awesome deals you definitely don't want to miss if you're thinking about travelling in the next few months!
