Aeroplan has introduced a new sale until April 5, 2024, at 11:59 pm, where you can get a bonus of up to 80% when buying Aeroplan points.
Purchase Aeroplan Points with an 80% Bonus
Yes, you’ll get an 80% bonus when buying a minimum of 15,000 Aeroplan points but before going ahead with this, it's important to understand the value of buying points.
Buying points with this promotion will essentially cost you about 1.94 cents per point, and while this particular offer is great, it isn’t as generous as some of the deals we saw previously in 2023.
However, there are situations where it could offer excellent value 🤔.
Things To Note
Before buying points, it's important to consider the following things:
Redemption availability: Award availability is always changing which could affect your plans if you plan to buy and the flight redemption changes ✈️.
Refunds: When booking flights with points, remember that if the airline changes your flight for any reason, any refunds will be issued in points! This can lead to a loss in value as you would have to find another flight redemption in points 📈.
SMQs and SQDs: Purchasing and using points with this bonus does NOT move you closer to any Status Qualifying Miles (SQMs) or Status Qualifying Dollar (SQDs) 🪽.
The Limitations
You have the option to purchase a maximum of 1,000,000 points annually, and you can additionally gift up to 500,000 points per year to others.
It's worth mentioning that while there are no current restrictions on purchasing points with a bonus, there have been significantly more attractive points-buying offers in the past. If you're not in a hurry, it may be best to wait for a more enticing offer later in the year 📅.
When Should I Buy Points?
Buying Aeroplan points with a bonus is about making the most of that bonus so that you can board those lucrative redemption deals! So, when exactly does it make sense to buy points? Here’s when you should buy points:
Long-distance journeys: If you’re planning to travel to Europe or another far-off land, getting an 80% bonus is pretty useful when buying points as it will make the trip more affordable and easier on your points balance!
Fly in Business Class: Who doesn’t love extra leg room and a superior flying experience? With an 80% bonus, you can easily upgrade to business class or find a great redemption deal so that you can fly in style 💺!
Best Way to Buy Points

We decided to put this promotion to the test ourselves by making a purchase at Voilà.
After spending $136.62, we got a notification saying we could use 13,600 of our Aeroplan points to cover the cost.
This means this point redemption allows you to redeem your points for 1 cent per point 🤑.
Concluding Thoughts
It's worth noting that we typically suggest redeeming Aeroplan points for at least 2.1 cents' value, often achieved through direct flight redemptions with Air Canada. However, if you don't have any upcoming travel plans, and considering this promotion offers a straight cash redemption at a higher value than typical gift card redemptions, it might not be the worst deal. However, if you have some extra points lying around and want to make use of this promo, this may be the deal for you!
