Double Your Avios Points with British Airways New Promotion

British Airways introduces a new offer for Executive Club members, allowing them to earn double Avios on upcoming paid flights extending into early 2024.

To take advantage of this, Executive Club members must first register before booking their flights. Registration is crucial, as flights booked prior to registering won't be eligible for double Avios.

Once registered, the window to book flights with British Airways extends until November 21, 2023. The offer enables travelers to earn double Avios on up to 10 flights, provided that these journeys are completed by January 14, 2024.

Remember to include your British Airways Executive Club account number when booking to ensure eligibility for the doubled Avios. Eligible flights include those between Europe and North America in partnership with American Airlines, Iberia, and Finnair.

British Airways has adjusted to a revenue-based earning model, with Avios earned depending on your status level and spending on various aspects like base fare, surcharges, and extras such as seat selection or upgrades.

Here's a breakdown of the Avios earned by status:

• Blue members: 6 Avios per £1 spent

• Bronze members: 7 Avios per £1 spent

• Silver members: 8 Avios per £1 spent

• Gold and above members: 9 Avios per £1 spent

With the "Double Avios Promotion," these numbers double, resulting in the following Avios earnings, based on your status:

• Blue members: 12 Avios per £1 spent

• Bronze members: 14 Avios per £1 spent

• Silver members: 16 Avios per £1 spent

• Gold and above members: 18 Avios per £1 spent

Considering the value of Avios at 1.5 cents per Avios (USD) / 2 cents per Avios (CAD), you can estimate the return on spending through the promotion. Even Blue members can earn a substantial amount of Avios with this offer.

As an example, a round-trip economy flight from Toronto to London in December 2023, with a total cost of $1,198 (CAD) or roughly £713, would earn the following Avios based on status:

• Blue members: 8,556 Avios

• Bronze members: 9,982 Avios

• Silver members: 11, 048 Avios

• Gold and above members: 12, 834 Avios

For reference:

• 7,500 Avios can secure a one-way off-peak flight in economy for distances between 651 and 1,151 miles, which is getting as far as Warsaw from London (or pretty much anywhere in Central & Western europe)

• 10,000 Avios allow for a one-way off-peak flight in economy between 1,152 and 2,000 miles, like London to Istanbul.

Additionally, there's the opportunity to earn bonus points for the amount charged to your credit card. If you use the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite to pay for the same flight, you'd earn an extra 2 Avios per dollar spent (CAD), resulting in an additional 2,710 Avios in the given example.

While we don’t recommend booking flights solely for the purpose of accumulating Avios,but if you were planning a trip with British Airways during the holiday season, taking advantage of this promotion could yield a get you some substantial return in Avios points.
