Up To 55,000 Avion Points with RBC’s New Credit Card Promotion

If you are in the market for a new credit card or just looking to grab some points with the welcome bonuses, RBC recently announced new promotions for 3 Avion credit cards

These promotions come with a new welcome bonus record, similar to last year's offers. The offers are only valid until April 30, 2024, so if you are looking to get a new credit and are trying to understand the value of these new offers, keep on reading.

RBC Avion Visa Platinum: Up to 55,000 Avion Points

That's right, the entry-level, no-income-required RBC Avion Visa Platinum credit card now comes with a welcome bonus of up to 55,000 Avion points! This is an increase from the previous offer of 35,000 points, easily making this card great for beginners or people looking to easily grab Avion points!

The Details

  • You’ll earn 35,000 Avion points upon approval.

  • Another 20,000 Avion points when you spend $5,000 in the first six months.

Additional Perks

The card also comes with some standard insurance coverage:

  • Travel medical/cancellation, and interruption insurance

  • Car rental and damage insurance

  • As well as mobile protection up to $1,500

There are some minor differences to note with this card when compared to other cards in this family. These include:

  • Earning 1 Avion point per dollar on all purchases.

  • And a lack of certain types of insurance offered by other cards.

Nevertheless, the Platinum comes with no minimum income requirement and a $120 annual fee, making it great for those who can’t get approved for other cards, like the Avion Infinite.

RBC Avion Visa Infinite: 55,000 Avion Points

RBC’s flagship product, the RBC Avion Visa Infinite also comes with a welcome bonus of up to 55,000 Avion points! Now, just like the platinum, the card previously did come with a welcome offer of 35,000 Avion points but it’s back up on the pedestal with this new record-breaking offer.

The Details

You can earn up to 55,000 Avion points with the following breakdown:

  • Receive 35,000 Avion points upon approval.

  • And, earn an additional 20,000 Avion points when you spend $5,000 in the first six months.

Additional Perks

Being the premium card that it is, it also comes with some impressive insurance coverages:

  • Out-of-home province/country medical insurance

  • Travel medical/cancellation, and interruption insurance

  • Car rental and damage insurance

  • As well as mobile protection up to $1,500

It's important to note that even though the card does not come with its annual fee waived, which again is $120, the current offer still has great value thanks to the points. With every RBC Avion point being valued at 2 cents each, the welcome bonus is estimated to be worth at least $1,100. Even after deducting the annual fee, the offer is still valued at a minimum of $980

Given the $5,000 spending requirement in just six months, it is important to plan ahead with what expenses you will put on this card to get those 20,000 points. That’s about $833 in purchases per month but if you want to get to these points faster and have large purchases coming up, make sure to put them on this card.

RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege: Up to 55,000 Avion Points + VIP Benefits

You would expect that the premium card in the Avion lineup, the RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege would come with a higher welcome bonus offer than the others, but this is not the case. It instead shares the same welcome offer of 55,000 Avion points, up from 35,000 points with essentially all the same benefits.

The Details

  • You’ll earn 35,000 Avion points upon approval.

  • Another 20,000 Avion points when you spend $5,000 in the first six months.

Additional Perks

Being the ultra-premium travel credit card, the Infinite Privilege comes with additional coverages and the standard ones. These include:

  • Delayed baggage and flight insurance

  • Hotel/motel burglary insurance

  • Purchase security, and extended warranty

  • Lost or stolen bag insurance

Now it's good to note that the card comes with a hefty $399 annual fee and a $200,000 minimum income requirement. Accompanied by the welcome bonus and exclusive benefits, this card only makes sense for those who are avid travelers and will make use of the extended insurance coverages and benefit from the higher annual fee.

You do however earn 1.25x Avion points on all purchases and can explore the option to redeem those points directly against premium fares at 2 cents per point, helping make the card a little better.

The Verdict?

The card you decide to get depends on your situation, so it’s important to look at the benefits. When comparing the insurance coverages of the RBC Avion Visa Platinum, RBC Avion Visa Infinite, and RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege, it's clear that the RBC Avion Visa Infinite and Infinite Privilege cards offer more insurance coverage benefits compared to the Visa Platinum … are we surprised 😑?

The RBC Avion Visa Infinite Privilege, although coming with greater insurance coverage is not the best choice out of the three. Yes, the card does come with an extra 0.25x on all purchases, but for that to be beneficial, you will have to spend more than $4,500 per month to make up for the annual fee of $399.

Our Recommendation

Ultimately, we recommend the RBC Avion Visa Infinite since it offers great insurance benefits, the same 55,000 points bonus, and valuable earning rates, all for an annual fee of $120.

We hope this helped, and remember, the card you choose should benefit your lifestyle and financial situation!

Pro-tip: You can use any of these credit cards to pay your rent with Chexy, allowing you to easily meet this requirement and get those points! Plus, if you sign up through our links you’ll also have one month of paying rent on Chexy fee-free, allowing you to maximize on your earnings potential.

Once you have applied and signed up for Chexy, submit a support ticket and your waive will be processed! It’s just that easy.

Aeroplan’s 100% Bonus Points Buying Promotion

Aeroplan currently offers a promotion on purchasing points with its Buy & Gift feature, and it is only available until January 29, 2024. The promotion provides a bonus of up to 100%, so if you are in the market for some Aeroplan points for your next vacation, you should consider doing so now before the offer expires!

The price currently depends on the amount of points you buy. Here is the breakdown of the tiers:

  • 3,000–20,000 points gets you a 55% bonus.

  • 25,000–55,000 points gets you a 75% bonus.

  • And purchasing 60,000 or more points gets you a 100% bonus.

Aeroplan typically sells points at a 3.5 cent per point valuation (CAD) but with this offer, the cost comes down to 1.75 cents per point (CAD), which is below the Aeroplan point valuation of 2.1 cents per point (CAD). So, if you know you'll get more value from an Aeroplan redemption than the cost of buying points, this 100% bonus can be a good deal for you.

Important note: Consider purchasing points only after you plan on buying your next trip with points and have secured a good deal on seats. This can be difficult since seats are always changing but you can always explore the redemptions provided below if you are still interested in buying points.

Is Sky’s the Limit?

No. The purchase limit for this promotion is set at 1,000,000 points per year, giving members enough time to grab points. Typically, Aeroplan restricts transactions to 250,000 base points, but this limit has now been doubled. With both base and bonus points, you can get up to 1,000,000 points in a single transaction!

Best Way to Purchase Points

When purchasing with a Canadian credit card, you will be charged GST/HST, which will reduce the overall value of the offer by a lot. Instead, consider using a US credit card, like the Chase Aeroplan as mentioned in our previous blog where you can also learn how to obtain a US credit card. Just ensure that the credit card is assigned with a US billing address for a tax-free experience.

Now remember, just because there is a compelling deal, does not mean you need to buy into it! The decision to buy Aeroplan points should be based on your own travel preferences and needs, so make sure you have a plan in mind.
