Unlocking Aeroplan's Hidden Offers

I stumbled upon something intriguing for our points scoop this week! While Aeroplan's Flight Reward Chart serves as a general guide for flight prices in points, their dynamic pricing often hikes up the actual costs of flights (not cool). But hold on to your hat – a surprise twist reveals some flights are available at way lower points than their listed price on Aeroplan!

πŸ›« Remember the Extras!

Before you start dreaming about your next adventure, keep in mind that every Aeroplan flight includes fees ranging from $50 to $150 for a one-way trip, depending on where you're taking off from and landing.

πŸŒ‰ Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton to San Francisco: Unbeatable Offers!

Let's get down to the nitty-gritty. Regularly, flights from Vancouver, Calgary, or Edmonton to San Francisco would set you back 10,000 points for economy and 20,000 for business class. But guess what? This December, you can snag economy seats for just 4,400 to 5,800 points and business class seats for a mere 10,100 to 11,300 points. That's almost half the usual price – a total steal!

🌴 Toronto and Montreal in on the Action

Toronto and Montreal aren't missing out on the fun either. Trips to Fort Lauderdale, usually priced at 10,000 points for economy and 20,000 for business, are dropping significantly.

This December, you can grab economy seats for as low as 4,400 points and business class seats with lie-flat comfort starting at just 13,800 points

Here's a tip: double-check the seat map to make sure the business seats are lie-flat, as not all of them are on this route. I did some digging and found quite a few available!

Don’t Miss This Opportunity!

If you've been squirreling away Aeroplan points, now's the perfect time to cash them in. These deals are a golden chance for an affordable, spontaneous getaway. And getting a lie-flat seat for just 14,000 – 16,000 points is as good as it gets.

Get these deals before they are gone!

Upcoming Changes to Aeroplan

Aeroplan recently began notifying members about changes coming to its terms and conditions, effective February 5, 2024, for existing members as of November 29, 2023, or immediately upon new account sign-up. πŸ‘€

These updates aim to tackle misuse issues and credit card welcome bonus eligibility, among other concerns faced by the program.

Key points:

  1. Single Account Limit: Terms now state that members are only allowed one Aeroplan account. Attempts to create multiple accounts using different identifiers will result in voiding Aeroplan Points and potential disqualification from the program.

  2. Family Sharing: The revision specifies rules for Family Pool creation and addresses fraud within the Family Pool. Aeroplan reserves the right to verify family relationships and take action against any fraudulent activity within the pool.

  3. Account Inactivity: The timeframe for closing inactive accounts has been reduced from 5 to 3 consecutive years, with forfeited Aeroplan Points.

  4. Credit Card Welcome Bonuses: Updates introduce new terms regarding the earning of new card bonuses on Aeroplan co-branded credit cards, emphasizing a one-time bonus for each card type, regardless of the issuer.

  5. Prohibited Activities: Bans using scripts or automated means to participate in the program and allows Aeroplan the right to audit accounts at any time, freezing or debiting points for violations.

These changes target misuse and fraud, with the aim to enhance the program's integrity. While most members won't be affected, actions such as misuse of Family Sharing or repeated card bonus acquisitions will face harsher consequences.

The suspension of new Family Sharing accounts since August 2023 aimed to address misuse, indicating that Aeroplan seeks to close loopholes before reopening this feature.

Now, in regards to Aeroplan’s tightened language around credit card welcome bonuses, it emphasizes limitations on repeat bonuses. These changes suggest a more firm "once-in-a-lifetime" policy for bonus point collection, potentially affecting those who frequently earn welcome bonuses.

Seems like Aeroplan's rolling out the red tape to safeguard their points and program. For the average flyer, it might not mean much, but for the credit card points strategist, get ready to work around the fine print. πŸ”Ž

Safe travels and happy holidays! πŸŽ„
