βοΈ A Quick Update on Aeroplan (and what it means for you)

βοΈ A Quick Update on Aeroplan (and what it means for you)
If you have been building up Aeroplan points for a trip, this is worth a quick read.
Aeroplan is making updates to its Flight Reward Chart starting June 1, 2026. These changes mainly affect how many points you will need for certain long-haul flights, especially in premium cabins.
This is not a major overhaul. The structure of the program stays the same, and a lot of common redemptions are untouched. But there are a few shifts that are worth knowing if you are planning a trip this year. π
What is actually changing
The biggest adjustments are showing up on longer flights to Europe and Asia, particularly in business and first class.
For Europe, most business class routes are increasing slightly. Think of it as a small step up rather than a major jump. Flights that many Canadians take, like Toronto to London, now require a bit more in points, but still sit within a range that makes them a strong use of Aeroplan.
Asia is where the increase is more noticeable. Business class flights to destinations like Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia now require more points than before. For a round trip, that difference can add up, especially if you are booking for more than one person.
There are also some increases on routes between Europe and Asia, which affects more complex itineraries. If you like building multi-stop trips, those segments may now cost more than they did previously.
What is staying the same βοΈ
A large portion of the chart remains unchanged (thank god).
Flights within North America, including most domestic routes, are not impacted. Travel to South America, the Caribbean, and many shorter routes also stay the same.
For many users, this means their day-to-day or more frequent redemptions will not feel any different.
A few small positives β
While most attention is on the increases, there are a few areas where pricing has improved slightly.
Some shorter economy flights to Europe now require fewer points, and a few long haul economy routes to Asia have also come down a bit. These are not dramatic changes, but they are helpful if you tend to travel in economy.
Our take π€
From our perspective, this is a measured update.
Air Canada is keeping the overall structure of Aeroplan intact, which matters. The partner chart is still fixed, and there is still a clear framework for how pricing works. That level of predictability is something many programs have moved away from.
At the same time, it is clear that premium cabin redemptions, especially long haul, are becoming more expensive. That is consistent with where most loyalty programs are heading.
Even with these changes, Aeroplan remains one of the more flexible and valuable programs available to Canadians. There are still strong redemption opportunities, especially if you are planning ahead and booking strategically.
What we would do π‘
If you already have a trip in mind, it is worth looking at booking before the end of May.
Locking in a redemption now means you can take advantage of current pricing, and you often have flexibility to adjust your plans later if needed.
If you are still early in your planning, this is a quick reminder to use your points more intentionally. Prioritizing higher-value redemptions and booking earlier will matter more going forward.

Check out these awesome deals you definitely don't want to miss if you're thinking about travelling in the next few months!
