✈️ Air Canada Heads South: New Latin America Routes Just Dropped

Air Canada just announced its biggest-ever expansion into Latin America. The airline is launching four brand-new destinations and ramping up service on a bunch of others, with a 16% overall increase in capacity to Latin America for the 2024–25 winter season.
The New Routes 👇
This winter, you’ll be able to fly direct from Canada to:
🇧🇷 Rio de Janeiro, from Toronto
🇨🇴 Cartagena, from Toronto and Montreal
🇬🇹 Guatemala City, from Montreal
🇲🇽 Guadalajara, from Toronto
These routes start rolling out between October and December 2025 and run into spring 2026. Most are weekly or a few times per week, so be flexible with travel dates for the best deals.
Air Canada is also adding 13 new routes to places they already serve, like:
Montego Bay, Nassau, Santiago, Fort-de-France, and Huatulco
Plus more flights out of Ottawa, Halifax, Quebec City, and Vancouver
More routes = more choice and fewer middle seats during high season (fingers crossed)! 🤞
How to Earn Aeroplan Points with These Flights 💳
If you use an Aeroplan credit card, you’ll rack up the Aeroplan points even faster. Here are a few of the top Canadian credit cards to help you earn those points:
American Express Aeroplan Reserve: 3 points per $1 on Air Canada
TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege: 2 points per $1
CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege: 2 points per $1
Real-life scenario: Let’s say you spend $800 on a flight to Cartagena using the Amex Reserve card. That’s 2,400 points from the card + ~1,600–2,000 points from the flight itself (depending on fare class). The total? 4,000+ points in one go. 🤑
How to Redeem Points 🤓
Want to use those points? Thanks to dynamic pricing, award costs vary, but here’s a rough idea for round-trip redemptions:
Toronto to Guadalajara: ~20,000–30,000 points
Montreal to Santiago: ~40,000–60,000+ points
Take a look at the flight reward chart to see exactly how many points you’ll need for these destinations. And remember, preferred pricing applies if you have an Aeroplan card. It’s worth it if you redeem even semi-regularly.
Short on Aeroplan points? Don’t forget you can top up from Amex Membership Rewards points (1:1 transfer).
Final Thoughts 💭
This is great news if you’re dreaming of a warm winter vacation. The expanded route map means better availability, shorter layovers, and more chances to earn Aeroplan points. Just don’t wait too long–these flights are seasonal, so it’s best to book sooner rather than later.
🛎 Aeroplan HotelSavers Spotlight: Luxury Hotel Stays Without the Price Tag

When you think about redeeming Aeroplan points, you probably think flights, right? While that’s the best way to use your points, you can also use them for hotels through Aeroplan’s HotelSavers program. It lets you trade points for luxury hotel stays you’d normally have to pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars per night for.
Let’s break down how it works and the top 3 hotel redemptions you should have on your radar.
What Is HotelSavers (And Is It Actually Good)? 🤔
With HotelSavers, you can use your Aeroplan points to book luxury hotel stays for free. Think destinations across the world like Barcelona, Hawaii, or Dubai.
There are over 300,000 properties worldwide, but the real perk is the Savers part: certain hotels (marked with a red tag) offer up to 30% off the usual points rate, just for Aeroplan members. That’s where the best value lives. 💰
Hotels are grouped into 8 categories, from Category 1 (budget ~10,000 points/night) to Category 8 (luxury ~100,000+ points/night). Obviously, the more luxurious the hotel, the more points it’ll cost. But there are some surprisingly good deals, even in the higher tiers.
One catch? Pricing is dynamic. So point costs can change depending on location, season, and availability. The best redemptions go quick, so try to book at least a few months in advance.
Top 3 Redemptions Worth Booking 🏖️
Here are three standout stays worth booking with your Aeroplan points:
Claris Hotel & Spa - Barcelona, Spain
Why it’s worth it: A historic palace turned boutique spa hotel right near Gaudí’s masterpieces in the city centre. You're scoring almost 1.5 cents per point and saving over €600 in high season.
Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort - Hawaii, USA
Why it’s worth it: Right on Waikiki Beach with live Hawaiian music and stunning sunset views. This redemption gets you nearly 1.5 cents per point in a crazy expensive location.
Taj Dubai - Dubai, UAE
Why it’s worth it: Views of the Burj Khalifa, Michelin-level dining, and a great location in the middle of Business Bay. Dubai hotels can be expensive, but this redemption holds strong at about 1.35 cents per point.
Our Take on Points Redemptions 📊
While you usually get the most value redeeming points for flights (about ~2 cents per point), HotelSavers redemptions can still get you up to 1.7 cents per point. That’s a solid return, especially if it means staying at a luxury hotel you might not otherwise splurge on.
Let’s run through two quick examples (one good redemption and one not-so-great) to show the difference in value:
✅ Say you’re booking a night at the Claris Hotel & Spa in Barcelona. The cash price is $617 a night, or 42,200 points. That works out to almost 1.46 cents per point, a strong redemption.
❌ Compare that to a non-HotelSavers option like the St. Regis Rome, which costs 327,000 points or about $2,650 per night. That’s just 0.81 cents per point, which is not nearly as good.
Always run a quick calculation before booking to ensure you’re getting a good deal. You want to look out for redemptions above 1.3 cents per point.
Bonus: Every 4th Night Free with an Aeroplan Credit Card 💳
If you have an Aeroplan co-branded credit card (like the American Express Aeroplan Reserve or the CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite Privilege Card), you’ll get every 4th night free when booking through HotelSavers with points.
Book 3 nights, and your 4th is completely free–making longer trips even more rewarding. 😎
The Bottom Line
If you have a bunch of Aeroplan points stashed away, HotelSavers is a great way to use them, especially for big-ticket vacations where hotels can cost over $500 a night. Look for the red-tagged hotels, aim for redemptions over 1.3 cents per point, and book early.

If you’re collecting RBC Avion points on the payments you make through Chexy, have you ever considered transferring your points to American Airlines AAdvantage?
As you may know, AAdvantage is one of the most powerful loyalty programs out there, especially when you consider that award redemption rates haven’t changed in a very long time.
RBC Avion points typically transfer to AAdvantage at a 1:0.7 ratio, which means that for every 1,000 Avion points you transfer, you’ll get 700 AAdvantage miles. While rare, there are occasional transfer bonuses that better this rate.
Once you have a tidy sum of AAdvantage miles at your disposal, you’ll want to consider redeeming them for some incredible experiences.
At the top of this list is booking the Etihad Airways Apartment on the Airbus A380 – one of the most exclusive First Class cabins out there.
Your experience is complete with your own private suite, which comes with a bed, separate sitting area, and excellent in-flight dining and drinks, as well as access to the indulgent shower in the sky.
For 62,500 AAdvantage miles (equivalent to about 89,300 Avion points), you can fly between Abu Dhabi and Paris or London.
For 90,000 AAdvantage miles (equivalent to about 129,000 Avion points), you can add another First Class leg to Singapore to maximize your experience.
Etihad Airways is going to begin flying the A380 on the Abu Dhabi–Toronto route as of late June. While award availability through AAdvantage on ultra-long-haul routes is very rare, if it shows up, you’re in for a very comfortable ride and an excellent redemption value.
Etihad Airways Apartments award availability through AAdvantage tends to show up within a month of departure. As long as you’re flexible with your travel plans by a few days, it shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Check out these awesome deals you definitely don't want to miss if you're thinking about travelling in the next few months!
