Receive Up to an 80% Bonus or 45% Discount on Flying Blue Miles āļø

Air FranceāKLMās Flying Blue program is back with another buy-miles promotion, and this time itās a mystery offer. Once you log in, youāll see either up to an 80% bonus on purchased miles or up to a 45% discount on the price. The promo runs until March 5, 2026. On the surface, ā80% bonusā sounds big. But what actually matters isnāt the headline, itās the math. Letās walk through it.
What Youāre Really Paying š³
With the strongest discount, miles price out at roughly 2.3 cents CAD per mile before tax. Since purchases are processed by Points.com (a Canadian company), GST or HST applies, pushing your real cost closer to 2.5 to 2.75 cents per mile. Thatās your rough break-even range. If you redeem below that value, youāre likely overpaying. If you can redeem at 3 cents per mile or more, then it can start to make sense.
Letās simplify it:
If a flight costs $1,200 in cash or 40,000 miles, youāre getting 3 cents per mile in value. In that case, buying at around 2.5 cents and redeeming at 3 cents creates a spread in your favour. But if that same flight costs $700 or 40,000 miles, youāre only getting 1.75 cents per mile.
Buying at 2.5 cents to redeem at 1.75 cents doesnāt work. Thatās why buying miles just because thereās a promo can be risky.
When Buying Miles Makes Sense
There are really only a few scenarios where purchasing miles is logical:
1. Youāre Topping Off for a Specific Booking: Youāve already found award availability. Youāre short 10,000ā20,000 miles. Buying a small amount unlocks a high-value redemption.
This is the most common and safest use case.
2. Youāve Found Exceptional Award Pricing: Flying Blue Promo Rewards can sometimes offer strong redemptions, especially on transatlantic routes. If youāve identified a booking that delivers 3ā4+ cents per mile, buying miles can work.
But you should confirm availability before purchasing. Miles purchases are non-refundable.
3. You Need Immediate Access to Miles: Sometimes you donāt want to wait for a transfer from a credit card program. Buying can be a speed play. Just make sure the math still works.
The Bottom Line š§
If youāve already found the flight, calculated the value per mile, confirmed it exceeds your purchase cost, and youāre comfortable with the non-refundable nature of the purchase, topping up can make sense. If not, itās better to wait. Sales come and go.
Strong redemptions are what actually create value.
China Goes Visa Free for Canadians šØš³āļø Hereās How to Fly There for Under $150
Big travel update. China is temporarily removing the visa requirement for Canadian passport holders.
From February 17 through December 31, 2026, Canadians holding ordinary passports can enter mainland China visa-free for stays of up to 30 days per visit.
So, if youāve been wanting to visit China, right now is the best time to do so!
How to Get There for Less Than $150 š³āļø
Now that entry is easier, letās talk about the cost to book a flight.
Letās assume youāre approved for the American ExpressĀ® AeroplanĀ® Reserve card offering up to 85,000 Aeroplan points*:
60,000 AeroplanĀ® points as a welcome bonus when you spend $7,500 within three months
25,000 AeroplanĀ® points when you spend $2,500 in month 13
Earn rate: 1.25 AeroplanĀ® points per $1 spent
Hereās how you could use your normal bills to fly to China:
If youāre putting $2,200 per month through Chexy, over three months, thatās:
$2,200 Ć 3 = $6,600
To reach the $7,500 requirement, youād only need to spend another $900 over three months, which you can do with your regular spending, like groceries, dining and gas.
What It Costs
Chexyās processing fee for Canadian credit cards is 1.75%.
$6,600 Ć 1.75% = $115.50
Thatās your total cost over three months to help trigger the bonus.
What That Gets You
An example economy redemption to China can price around 51,600 AeroplanĀ® points one way, depending on distance and routing. Comparable cash fares can sit around $900 CAD.

Final Thoughts
China just made it easier to go. No visa application. No long forms. No extra planning stress. Just book your flight, and youāre in for up to 30 days.
And the best partā¦.instead of paying around $900 in cash for that flight, you strategically utilized your bills, paid about $115 in processing fees, and unlocked a welcome bonus that helped you get there. š
