Aeroplan’s 80% Bonus Deal: Turn Points into Premium Travel! 💼✈️
Aeroplan’s 80% Bonus Deal: Turn Points into Premium Travel! 💼✈️
Dreaming of sipping champagne in business class or lounging in a first-class suite? With Air Canada’s limited-time offer, you can turn those dreams into reality by purchasing Aeroplan points with a whopping 80% bonus. This deal is live until December 11, 2024, and if you play your cards (and points) right, you could be flying in style for a fraction of the cost. Let’s break it down in a way that actually gets you excited to book!
The Basics of the Deal
When you buy at least 15,000 Aeroplan points, you’ll get an 80% bonus. That means:
Buy 15,000 points, and you’ll get 27,000.
Buy 50,000 points, and you’ll end up with 90,000.
Or, go big with 500,000 points, and you’ll rake in 900,000 points total.
You’re effectively buying points at 1.4 cents USD per point, (1.9 cents CAD), which can lead to massive savings on premium business-class travel, which we love over here at Chexy.
Real Example: Business Class to Europe
If you’re dreaming of flying business class to let’s say Paris, this promo can help you turn that dream into reality.
If You Have Some Points:
For a one-way ticket, you’ll need 70,000 points. Let’s say you already have 30,000 points, you can purchase 25,000 points during the promotion and receive an 80% bonus (20,000 extra points), bringing your total to 75,000 points—more than enough for the redemption.
The cost? $875 CAD for the points. Compare that to the cash price of $4,750 CAD, and you’re saving over $3,875 CAD on the same ticket!
If You Are Starting From Scratch:
Now, let’s say you’re starting with zero points and still want to book this ticket. You’d need to buy 40,000 points, which will give you 72,000 points after the 80% bonus—enough to cover the redemption and leave you with a little extra.
This would cost you around $1,400 CAD. While the cash price of the ticket is $4,750 CAD, you’d still save over $3,350 CAD, making this a fantastic deal even if you’re starting from scratch!
💳 Smart Ways to Pay for Aeroplan Points in Canada
Aeroplan points are processed through Points.com, meaning these purchases won’t qualify as travel spending on your credit card. To make the most of your money, here’s how to pay smart for points:

Transferable Avios offer opportunities for saving
In our last column, we talked about the oneworld airline alliance and accessing it through British Airways Executive Club.
Executive Club uses a points currency called Avios, and Avios is also the name of the points currency for the airline loyalty programs Finnair Plus, Qatar Airways Privilege Club, Iberia Plus and AerLingus AerClub.
While each of these airlines technically has its own loyalty program, the Avios can all be exchanged with British Airways at a 1:1 ratio, although the transfer process for Iberia is more restrictive than the others.
Even though each of these airlines is part of the oneworld alliance, the amount of Avios needed to book on a partner airline varies depending on which Avios you’re using.
So, when you’re looking to book a flight using Avios, remember to check for seats through each airline that uses Avios, because one might have a far better deal available.
As an example, we found a business-class seat on a Japan Airlines flight from Vancouver to Tokyo on Nov. 8, 2025 on each of the British Airways, Finnair, and Iberia sites.
The seat cost 77,250 Avios + $324.42 CAD on British Airways and Iberia, but 94,250 Avios + $325.67 CAD on Finnair.
In this case, you would want to transfer your Avios to either British Airways or Iberia.
However, it’s worth noting that Japan Airlines award availability opens five days earlier on Finnair and Iberia – 360 days in advance, instead of 355 for British Airways. So, if you are planning to travel in a busy season and you can’t find availability on Iberia, you might want to turn to Finnair to ensure you get a seat.
