Buy Aeroplan Points with a 100% Bonus

That’s right! From now until June 21, 2024, at 11:59 pm, you can take advantage of a promotion that offers up to a 100% bonus on points purchases. Here’s everything you need to know to maximize this offer.

Promotional Details

Aeroplan points are typically sold at 3.5 cents per point (CAD). During this promotion, the bonus you receive depends on the number of points you purchase:

• Buy 4,000–30,000 points: Receive a 65% bonus

• Buy 35,000–50,000 points: Receive a 75% bonus

• Buy 60,000+ points: Receive a 100% bonus

With the 100% bonus, the cost per point drops to 1.75 cents (CAD), which is lower than the usual redemption value of 2.1 cents (CAD).

Comparing Costs and Benefits

If you have a specific use for Aeroplan points that guarantees a redemption value higher than the purchase cost, then this is the deal for you.

It’s important to note that buying or gifting points does NOT contribute to your Aeroplan Elite Status.

Note: Aeroplan allows members to buy up to 1,000,000 points per calendar year through the Buy & Gift Points feature. 

Optimal Credit Card Usage

Points.com is the points processor for Aeroplan points, which means category accelerators on Air Canada or travel purchases won’t apply. Additionally, using a Canadian credit card will lead to the additional GST/HST charge, which can reduce the overall value of your purchase.

Instead, use a US credit card with a US billing address so that you can avoid those pesky taxes (we pay enough already).

70% Bonus With Air France KLM Flying Blue Miles 

The Air France KLM Flying Blue loyalty program is renowned for its monthly Promo Rewards, unique redemptions on partner airlines, and more. Let’s take a look at their new promotion and how you can benefit from it.

Current Promotion: 70% Bonus on Purchased Miles

From now until June 16, 2024, Flying Blue members can purchase miles with a 70% bonus. The offer is only valid if you buy at least 2,000 miles. With this promotion, the cost of miles drops to 1.79 cents each (USD), which is a better rate than the standard 3.05 cents per mile.

Limits and Costs

Non-Elite Members: Can purchase up to 100,000 miles annually (excluding bonuses), which would cost $3,050 USD or $4,116 CAD. You would end up with 170,000 miles with the bonus.

Elite Members: No annual limit on miles purchased; maximum bonus miles are capped at 210,000 miles.

How Should You Buy

Purchases are made through Points.com, thus, It’s best to use a card with a high base earning rate or one you're using to meet a spending requirement. You should also consider using a US credit card, to avoid paying for taxes. Learn more about this here.

Maximizing Value

Flying Blue’s Promo Rewards offer discounted award tickets, which are the best bang for your buck. For example, in May of this year, award flights from Quebec City to Europe were at a 25% discount in economy class.

A round-trip could cost 30,000 miles but with the 70% bonus promotion, buying 30,600 miles would cost about $755 CAD, which can be better than some flights found elsewhere.

Earning Flying Blue Miles

You can earn Air France KLM Flying Blue miles by booking flight tickets with Air France, KLM, SkyTeam partners and using your credit card of course. You can also earn points through the Brim Flying Blue Air France Credit Card on all purchases, as well as transferring Amex points at a 1:0.75 ratio from American Express credit cards, if that interests you.
